Security
Security is such a broad topic that you cannot just assume with a secure wireless network that all is well. You may be able to prevent people from accessing your network but the other components that need to be considered are malicious attacks from people who enjoy creating a nightmare for owners of computers.
- Consider the consequences of a customer being able to deviate from the shopping side and then leaving graphic pictures that are offensive to customers on the display.
- Imagine the cost of reimaging a computer and the downtime all because a person was able to break out of the browser.
- Consider the Malware that could be added to the kiosk if there was a USB port that a hacker could access.
All of these situations are more than possible; they are probable. These have been observed by intentionally leaving an unsecured system in a public area and observing from a distance.
The security systems included with the SurfThing kiosk software has been rigorously tested to make sure none of the above situations occur in your retail environment.
Signage
If you are going to invest in a kiosk get the maximum benefit by using signage to promote products and services. You could develop your own software to do this, or you could use a cost effective system that was managed for you. The SurfThing signage management removes the stress of managing this and relies on specialists who deal with this every day. Changes to the signage are extremely cost effective and implemented fast to insure that the right messages are delivered to the right systems at the right time.
Local Content
If you would like to maximize the use of your kiosk it can be used for training, or it can be used to run demonstration videos for customers. A key in making this happen is the capability to run the content locally. SurfThing’s automated delivery system allows you to play much richer media than can be streamed over the Internet. Other local applications can also be securely run on SurfThings.
Support
Part of the SurfThing support agreement covers the hardware as well. Should the hardware fail a replacement system configured for that individual store can be express shipped to arrive the next day. SurfThing maintains an inventory of the products used in your operations. SurfThing also keeps your systems up to date with the latest patches, plug-ins and applications, so that the user experience is always the best it can be.

To demonstrate the value of the SurfThing kiosk we will let the software be used without charge for up to 90 days. The only investment required is $995.00 for the PC used in the kiosk. The reason we require this PC is that it takes a significant investment in time to insure the integrity for the security with each hardware configuration we use. There are so many variables in off the shelf PC’s that we cannot insure the security without extensive effort. If the trial does not yield the results you are under no obligation to purchase the SurfThing kiosk software or support, and you can keep the PC.
